Week 12: Digital Citizens

Hi guys!

(This will be my last post! sorry for the confusion)

Last week we learned about webcasting, an online radio that can be listened to whenever and wherever you want. This helpful tool aids people to voice their opinions in a verbal format and is a quick way to do so.

This week I have no new tools for you, however seeing as this is might last post for this blog, I have decided to google my name. As I have created a great PLN and PLE I hope to see that the results would be greater than before I stated these blogs. I was not disappointed when I did so.

Googling My Name
Before this blog all there was of me on google was pictures of me from Facebook. Now I have many pictures of myself from Facebook and a link my twitter account! So clearly from the first time I have googled myself (before the class) my digital footprint has grown.

Building a Positive Digital Footprint
Something I have learned about while building a positive digital footprint is that it is very important to actually have one. You might have a good job opportunity that requires your future employer to look your name up and you will want to have a positive digital footprint to promote yourself. You also might have children or grandchildren that are curious about you and google your name; you will want to portray a positive image to those people!

I have learned that you want to live in a digital world with respect. As I have mentioned before, if someone were to google your name you would want it to show good things about you and your successes rather than you “let downs”.

Digital citizenships
The most significant thing I learned and the character I found the most important is to be respectful and respect other citizens’ rights. For just like face to face interactions there needs to also be a digital respect for one another. When there is respect there is progression in communication of information. More respect, more communication, more and better information being let out.
That being said, if there is disrespect or foul play involved in digital communication, I will report such behaviour immediately. Bullying online or in person is completely inappropriate and not allowed. (eg. On Facebook you can report people for posts that make you feel uncomfortable or you can report people for inappropriate posts).  If I see any copyright issues, I will immediately inform the person doing this act and inform them of their illegal use of items. The copyright tools mentioned in lecture 10 are useful to let people know of your “all rights reserved” policy is a useful tool to use.

And so that is all! Hope you have a great week.

Cheers.
