Week 3: Michelle's weekly report and reflection

Hello everyone!

As you could see I have posted two blogs this week! The blog prior to this one was just a little something that I thought would be helpful for those of you who need a little help getting back on track with school and other life related matters. I hope the blog helped with some concerns you might have had!

Now on to this blog. This week I learned about something called feedly. This is a site that keeps you updated on news and blogs of your choice. I was reading one of my classmates blog. She made a good analogy of what feedly is. Emma compared feedly to facebook! Like facebook, Feedly post the most popular news or most recent news that have been uploaded by bloggers that you have subscribed to (or in Facebook/twitter terms "followed"). I find feedly quite helpful because it saves me time to have to go and look up the blogger and their most recent blog.

So the my blog early this week was about study[ing] succesfully. For this blog however, I have found a blog that is more interesting and relevant to me and my life. I also find it might help many of you who are dealing with everyday stressor. Stress management is a blog site that has great tips on how to live a happy and relaxed life. Their blogs include, but are not limited to:  “reduce stress with these tips” , “student stress management” and “simple stress management for students” which are among my favorite blog posts. Although it does not look like they are still active, the have an abundant amount of blogs that you can continuously look over and never get bored of.  From now on, because I believe it is important for individuals to live a happy fulfilled life, I will be reverting back to this blogs site for every one of my blogs! No need to thank me.

A couple of pros about RSS feed readers (feedly) is that they are so convenient . Like I mentioned before, you do not have to go to the blogs sites that you are interested in, but rather they come to you. In addition, RSS feed reader can help you expanded your knowledge in digital literacy and responsibility.   What is digital literacy and responsibility you ask? Simple. Digital literacy is “the process of teaching and learning about technology and the use of technology” (Ribble, 2015). In other words, digital literacy is your ability to become more informed and experienced with technology. RSS feed readers has done precisely that. Thanks to the RSS readers I have gained knowledge on accessing blogs in a much simpler and faster  fashion and now you have gain knowledge about this program and perhaps will go check it out yourself- I hope. Digital responsibility refers to your duty to maintain etiquette when viewing websites, blogs, and so on and helping other online when help is needed. So, RSS readers maintains that when you find a blog that you enjoy and you leave a comment, you must present yourself in a non-aggressive and appropriate behaviour. In addition, RSS readers are a great source for help. The Blog site that I have saved in my RSS reader, ie the blog mentioned above “ reduce stress with tips”, aids their readers to reduce stress and maintain well-being.  So as you can see RSS feeder contribute in building knowledge on digital literacy and responsibility.

Remember last week, the PLE tool? Well here I am mentioning it again. Recall how helpful this tool was to enhance your knowledge on certain topics and how helpful this tool was at organizing your thoughts. Well where do you think an RSS reader fits into that diagram? Do not worry there are no wrong answers! I would say the reader could be part of the searching and viewing video, a subgroup of practicing digital literacy (please view the diagrams on the side). The RSS makes it easier for you to search for videos or other information and you could basically get ride of the Youtube group, google group all together and combine their information into one, the RSS feed reader.  The reader could also be part of communication, a subgroup of collaborating and socializing. Again you could take away the Hotmail, gmail, brock outlook, facebok, tumbler, Instagram etc, and replace them with this RSS reader! Now see how empty this diagram looks.

Well that's all I have for this week. I hope you enjoyed my blog and check out the blogs I have mentioned. I guarantee they will be helpful.

Cheers.
